Frequently Asked Questions

How can I book an appointment?

To make your first appointment you can book online, call or text us at 250-566-3833, or email us at robsonphysio@gmail.com.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

  • Complete the electronic intake form that will be sent to your email prior to the appointment. If you are unable to fill it out, please arrive 10 minutes early to complete it before your appointment. (All information collected is kept confidential and is stored securely).

  • For physiotherapy appointments, wear or bring some clothing that is easy to move in, like shorts and a tank top/t-shirt so your physiotherapist can see your body move and access your skin and muscles. (We have apparel you can borrow if needed).

  • If you have extended health benefits, make sure you are familiar with your coverage. (Ex. Do they require a doctor’s referral for coverage? Do they cover the service you are booked for?).

What is involved in a Physiotherapy Assessment?

As per the Practice Standards outlined by our regulatory body, all physiotherapists must do an assessment prior to starting treatment. If you are new to the therapist, a detailed history will be taken at your initial appointment. Questions will be related to your current problem but will also include prior history of injuries, illnesses, and/or surgeries. We ask questions about your work, sports, family, and hobbies in order to understand your needs as an individual. Information regarding medication is necessary as we need to understand the potential for certain side effects impacting treatment. For example, taking blood thinners or ibuprofen will make bruising more likely with treatments such as IMS/Dry Needling.

Goal setting is important as we need to know what you want to be able to achieve so we can help you meet your objectives. Controlling pain is a common goal, but we also want to have some active goals to work towards, like returning to certain sports or activities, playing with children or grandchildren, or getting back to work.

Other than subjective history taking, we also do a physical evaluation that will look at your movement patterns, evaluate your strength, and test for specific orthopedic injuries.

Once we have gathered the information we need we will discuss the findings and options for treatment. An approximate timeframe for recovery will be determined as well as optimal frequency of treatment sessions.

In most cases, treatment intervention can start right after the assessment and is included in the assessment fee. You will likely be in the clinic for about 50-70 minutes for your first visit.

Expect to be provided with some home care activities like exercises, icing/heat, and self massage/release techniques. Your own involvement in your treatment is critical for success in most cases.

What should I expect from Physiotherapy Treatment Sessions?

Treatment sessions follow up on the plan determined at the assessment. A re-evaluation will be done at every appointment to measure changes and determine further course of action. Generally you will be in the clinic for 30-45 minutes for most treatment sessions.

Do you take ICBC or WSBC claims?

We are an authorized provider of both services. Please inform us at the time of booking whether you think your injury is work related. The therapist will go over the processes involved in filing a ICBC/WSBC claim.

Do you direct bill?

We direct bill several insurance companies for physiotherapy appointments. Let us know which company you are covered by when you are booking.

How do I make payments?

Payment will be taken after the assessment is complete and an invoice will be provided for your records and insurance purposes. We do all of our billing for Robson Valley Physiotherapy at our Jasper location, so we require a credit card on file to bill. If that form of payment does not work for you, alternative arrangements can be made.

Please discuss your benefits with your provider prior to coming into the clinic so you are well informed on what coverage you are entitled to. It is also necessary to have your health benefits card with you on your first appointment.

What is the cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours notice prior to an appointment cancellation. Appointments missed without proper notification will be charged the full amount of the appointment back to the patient at the discretion of the clinic. $40 of each cancellation fee is donated to Community Outreach Services.

Do I have to be referred by a doctor?

No, physiotherapists can treat without referral by a doctor. However, most health insurers require a doctor’s referral before they authorize coverage of fees. Please contact your provider if you have any questions regarding your coverage.
